NovaScale 1.6.0
Adds touch-first terminal controls, redesigned monitoring, Apple Container support, major Remote Codex upgrades, system file sharing, browser proxy routing, and a rebuilt SSH and Codex transport foundation.
NovaScale 1.6.0 is now available on the App Store. This release deepens the remote-work experience across the terminal, host management, monitoring, containers, Remote Codex, file sharing, and web access, while rebuilding important SSH and Codex foundations for better reliability.
Here are the 1.6.0 changes:
Terminal and SSH
- Added touch-first mouse controls for tmux, OpenCode, Herdr, and other mouse-aware terminal applications, including scrolling, clicking, text selection, and contextual actions.
- Added terminal voice input using Apple’s on-device speech technologies.
- Added pinned terminal and tmux sessions, configurable tmux prefixes, and Page Up/Page Down controls for copy-mode workflows.
- Moved Simple Command output into a dedicated result sheet that is easier to review.
- Upgraded the terminal rendering core and improved ANSI colors, theme changes, Codex CLI colors, and text rendering.
- Improved terminal spacing when the iPad app runs on macOS, plus reconnection and warm-up behavior after foreground and network transitions.
- Fixed Tailscale SSH and tmux attachment issues, terminal creation edge cases, and monitor-terminal compatibility with Tailscale SSH.
Hosts
- Added local aliases and custom icons for tailnet hosts.
- Added host pinning and pinned-session shortcuts.
- Added faster cached host discovery while NovaScale refreshes the latest tailnet state.
- Improved the SSH key picker and host action layout.
Monitoring and Containers
- Redesigned host monitoring with denser CPU, memory, load, network, disk, and disk I/O views.
- Added network history, interface selection, clearer disk usage, collection timestamps, and more useful process details.
- Added the ability to end stalled processes remotely.
- Added Apple Container detection and management on supported macOS hosts.
- NovaScale Pro can deploy new Docker and Apple containers.
- Improved Docker status loading on slower hosts, including Synology DSM systems.
Remote Codex
- Added thread forking, pinning, and renaming, making it easier to branch work without changing the original desktop or CLI conversation.
- Added Codex goals, goal continuation, and subagent status and navigation.
- Improved model and reasoning-effort restoration, permissions controls, approval handling, activity display, Markdown rendering, attachments, downloadable resources, and generated-image presentation.
- Added host maintenance diagnostics for Codex CLI, app-server, and NovaScale host-service compatibility.
- Improved long-thread loading, foreground recovery, WebSocket reconnection, transcript synchronization, scrolling, and active-turn state handling.
- Added support for current models and their advertised reasoning-effort levels through the host’s Codex app-server.
- Existing NovaScale 1.5.0 Codex hosts can be upgraded with the current bootstrap without pairing them again.
Remote Notifications
- NovaScale Pro can now notify you when Remote Codex work needs attention, even after you leave the app.
- Notification content remains privacy-conscious: thread details are resolved on your device rather than placed directly in the remote notification payload.
- Added controls for how long read-only and actively operated Codex threads remain subscribed for notifications.
Files and Sharing
- Share files from the system Share sheet to SFTP, active terminal sessions, or Codex threads.
- Direct Codex transfers use the app-server WebSocket and are available free.
- NovaScale Pro adds linked SSH/SFTP acceleration with byte-level progress for Codex transfers.
- Added faster sharing to saved SFTP locations and support for copying remote file paths into terminal and agent workflows.
Web Access
- Added SOCKS5 and HTTP CONNECT proxy routing through another host in your tailnet.
- Added an option to access trusted self-signed internal sites.
- Improved background audio for self-hosted media services such as Jellyfin.
Reliability
- Rebuilt the SSH and Codex transport foundations in Rust for safer connection and channel management.
- Improved terminal and SFTP warm-up, reconnection, and recovery after app backgrounding or network changes.
- Fixed connection, scrolling, synchronization, performance, memory, and crash issues found during release testing.
- Refined when App Store rating requests can appear so they do not interrupt active input or remote work.
Notes
- Remote Codex connects to your own Codex CLI/app-server. Your code, conversations, and workspace data remain on your host.
- NovaScale is not affiliated with Tailscale Inc. or OpenAI.
- Codex bootstrap wrapper source: GalaxNet-Ltd/nova-codex-bootstrap.
